As catering providers at 10 northern racecourses we were delighted to be celebrating great success at the annual National Racecourse Catering Awards held yesterday, this year supported by Matthew Clark. The 2017 awards, hosted by Newbury Racecourse, brought together racecourses and their caterers from across the UK to celebrate culinary excellence from the past 12 months.
Now in their 8th year, the annual awards recognise and reward across a total of 16 categories, from fine dining to fast food and everything in between, with a number of the awards dedicated to food and drink suppliers. CGC celebrated success this year with a total of 5 wins, a certificate of merit and a further 8 shortlisted entries! Wins included ‘Best New Catering Concept’ for our collaboration with Winteringham Fields at Beverley Racecourse, ‘Best drinks supplier to a Racecourse’ for Slingsby gin and their cocktail provision in the Ripon Racecourse Ladies’ Day Marquee, and ‘Small Racecourse Catering Award’ for overall catering provision at Ripon Racecourse also.
Our absolute favourite award of the day was the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to our Managing Director, Darran Coulson, who this year celebrates his 30th year working here at CGC Event Caterers. “We’re completely overhwlemed and delighted with our successes today, and what an honour to receive a lifetime achievement award – I’m certainly in great company with 2 former colleagues having scooped the prize in previous years. What I’m most proud of though is the team effort involved in delivering the catering that’s been recognised here today. We couldn’t possibly achieve everything we do without the hard work and dedication of all of our managers, chefs and staff, I’m so pleased for them that their efforts have been so well rewarded”
With thanks to Ivor Spreadbury and the judging panel at The National Racecourse Catering Awards and also the team at Newbury Racecourse for their fantastic hospitality in hosting this year’s event.
