As catering providers at 10 northern racecourses the annual National Racecourse Catering Awards is always high on our agenda so we were delighted to be celebrating on Friday 26th October. The 2018 awards, this year supported by Matthew Clark and hosted by Hilton Garden Inn, Doncaster Racecourse, brought together racecourses and their caterers from across the UK to celebrate culinary excellence from the past 12 months.
Now in their 9th year, the annual awards recognise and reward across a total of 16 categories, from fine dining to fast food and everything in between, with a number of the awards dedicated to food and drink suppliers. CGC celebrated success this year with a total of 4 wins and a further 5 shortlisted entries!
Wins included our longest contracted supplier TD Goodall for ‘Best Local Supplier to a Racecourse’ providing all of our racecourses and indeed our other venues with dairy products for 30 years, ‘Best Bar at a Racecourse’ for the Henry Crossley Bar at Wetherby Racecourse, situated in the ground floor of the brand new Millennium West Stand, and perhaps the greatest accolade of the ceremony the ‘People’s Choice Award’ went to Beverley Racecourse, an award voted for by the racegoers themselves! The award was hotly contested with the top 6 including Ascot, Newcastle and York Racecourse.
Talking of York, congratulations to our colleagues at York Racecourse who scooped a win for ‘Best Casual Dining Experience at a Racecourse’ for the Edwardian Weighing Room, the facility was refurbished in 2016 and was the final stage in the £10 million redevelopment of the Northern End of the Racecourse and a certificate of merit for Ainsty Ales, ‘Best Drinks Supplier to a Racecourse’.
