The 12 Days of CGC Christmas

Tis’ the season! Finally it’s Christmas, undoubtedly one of our busiest times. This year we’ve done our own spin on ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ and on social we’ve been festively sharing (by song) all the things that make CGC,CGC. From our history to our team, why not get to know us a bit more this Christmas? Don’t forget to sing along! 

1. Heritage

On the first day of Christmas here at CGC, a long and fruitful catering history… 

CGC Event Caterers is a long-established caterer with a distinctive British identity. Established in 1896, Craven Gilpin and Sons, as we were formerly known, began life at The Mansion in Roundhay Park. We catered our very first marquee wedding in Gledhow, 3 miles from The Mansion, with everything being transported by horse and cart for the wedding breakfast of Beatrice and Ernest Burrows. 2. Venue Sector: Live

On the second of Christmas here at CGC, live venues part of SMG…  

Arenas, theatres and entertainment venues attract a broad range of customer profiles and, with that in mind, we take a flexible approach to our catering provision across our live venue portfolio. From darts to Disney – concourse kiosks & bars, hospitality suites, and VIP lounges cater for the many thousands who arrive en masse ahead of the show. 3. Our suppliers

On the third day of Christmas here at CGC,  delicious produce we sourced locally…

Food provenance isn’t just a fad, it’s our way of life. Over the decades we’ve grown our own, baked our bread and stocked up on culinary knowledge, bringing real value to the table. Just like our customers we want to know where our food comes from. Our Executive Chef carefully selects suppliers based on quality first followed by their ability to consistently deliver for the breadth and scale of our growing business. Read more.

4. Venue Sector: Sport

On the fourth day of Christmas here at CGC; football, boxing and horse racing…  

Horse racing, football, rugby, boxing – whatever the sport we’ve got the catering provision to perfectly accompany it. Sports catering is our heritage, it’s where we honed our skills and learned to cater for the crowds. Sports catering encompasses everything from bars, kiosks & popup solutions to top notch fine dining overlooking the pitch, the track or the course. 5. Drink

On the fifth day of Christmas here at CGC, wine some beers and something sparkly….

We know that offering a great drinks range to our customers is a major element in delivering an enjoyable event. To achieve that we work with a wide range of suppliers, from well-known favourites to locally produced picks. We cater for a huge range of event styles across the business, adapting our offer to suit the occasion rather than taking a ‘one size fits all’ approach. 6. Venue Sector: Culture and Heritage

On the sixth day of Christmas here at CGC, events in buildings that are olde worlde…

From the majesty and splendour of a Cathedral to the historically rich setting of a Leeds Union Workhouse – culture & heritage venues offer one of a kind experiences for that all important event or occasion. Exhibition and event centres are multi-use spaces for a wide range of event styles, sizes and visitor profiles. Our catering in this sector is flexible and adaptable; meaning we are able to respond quickly and efficiently to peak periods of demand in our retail cafe offer.

Dinners and events are on an enormous scale at exhibition and event centres. Success in this field relies on the use of multiple kitchen facilities, efficiently managed staff and meticulous planning to ensure that a perfectly executed meal for 4 in a client tasting can be just as good for 2,000 on event day. Read more.

9. Services: Restaurants and Cafés

On the ninth day of Christmas here at CGC, coffee, cake and a pot of tea…

We operate multiple restaurants across our sports, live and outdoor sectors, some fine dining, some a little more relaxed in style. The common thread throughout is the time and energy that goes into creating menus to fit each restaurant’s audience, especially those who dine with us time and time again, we like to keep things interesting for them. We offer choice and variety in our menus, favouring the use of locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to ensure the very best flavour combinations. Just as varied in style are our cafes, some just pop up on an event by event basis, but all offer a complete range from breakfast, light bites and afternoon tea to bistro meals and grazing lunches. Read more.

On the tenth day of Christmas here at CGC, all the team that we call family…

A more passionate team of people is hard to find – testament to this is the staggering number of team members who have worked within the business for 10, 15, 20 plus years.

People are the heart and soul of our business. Highly skilled, experienced and with a passion to learn and experiment. We source like-minded people and nurture talent across the group. 11. Services: Mobile catering

On the eleventh  day of Christmas here at CGC,  different trends for the street foodie…

Mobile and pop up catering solutions are essential for events with high a footfall and limited facilities but the need to provide quick service food with exciting variety. We develop our own pop up concepts, as well as working with an extensive list of carefully selected partners operating specialist units, each hand picked to complement the rest of the range. Staying close to emerging food trends and with the ability to support and enhance events of all sizes, our partners include cocktail bars, artisan producers, ‘gate to plate’ and gourmet burgers, street food vendors with international flavours and sweet treats with Spanish churros. Read more.

Our bread and butter (quite literally). We know that sourcing ingredients is just the first step in delivering beautifully presented and wonderfully tasty food.
